June 17, 2015

Germantown, MD – The Department of Energy (DOE) has named Allegheny Science & Technology (AST) its 8(a) Small Disadvantaged Business of the Year for Fiscal Year 2014. The award recognizes the efforts and commitment of DOE’s top small disadvantaged business. DOE Office of Small Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) Director, John Hale III stated, “Small businesses generate innovation and technical solutions that contribute towards the fulfilment of our national security and energy missions.”

AST has been supporting DOE since 2011, most recently as the Mission Oriented Technical Support (MOTS) prime contractor, providing professional and engineering services across major technology areas and offices. Hale added, “Small businesses’ vitality is critical to our Nation’s economic prosperity. Their health and growth is essential to the communities hosting DOE activities around the country.”

AST is also the prime contractor on the Program Management & Integration Services (PMIS) contract supporting Nuclear Energy (NE) and Idaho Operations Office (ID), and leads compliance-based independent assessments across all Office of Secure Transportation (OST) programs for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). In April, AST published a DOE success story on behalf of the OSDBU.

The award will be formally presented to AST during the General Session of the 14th Annual DOE Small Business Forum and Expo in Phoenix, AZ, June 16–18, 2015.
