December 20, 2016

Washington, DC – The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) hosted its annual IMPACT Awards Ceremony on December 14, 2016. Allegheny Science & Technology’s (AST) Marisol Bonnet and Rich Tusing were among the honorees being awarded the 2016 Communication and Engagement Award for their performance and involvement in the development of the DOE’s Hydropower Vision Report. The Assistant Secretary’s IMPACT Award is the highest honor bestowed in the EERE, and the award categories correspond to six core values: Innovation, Mission, People, Accountability, Communication, and Teamwork.

Over the past two years, AST has showed continued support to the DOE EERE’s Hydropower Vision Report which looks at the future of hydropower through 2050. The Hydropower Vision Report is one of the most comprehensive analyses of the future of environment stability through renewable hydropower in the United States. Marisol Bonnet served a critical role as lead author and coordinator for the “Roadmap” chapter, which defined a range of actions needed to realize the economic and social benefits of increased hydropower in the future. Rich Tusing oversaw the underlying analysis, was a contributing author, and led critical obligations related to concurrence and drafting of the report.
“I am very proud of the exciting work and exceptional contributions that AST staff have delivered to EERE’s Water Power Technology Office. The contributions by Marisol and Richard to this first of a kind and far reaching vision document will impact the direction of the water power technologies industry far into the future,” said Doug Kaempf, AST’s Vice President of Clean Energy Systems.
Bonnet said of the award, “I am honored to have been able to contribute to the Hydropower Vision report and to have been a part of this great team. Being recognized with the Assistant Secretary’s IMPACT Award is definitely a highlight in my career!”
