By late January, the shine of New Year’s resolutions is definitely starting to wear off for some of us. The calendars are full again. The emails are piling up. Motivation can start to feel thin. That’s normal—and it’s also where real growth begins.
At AST, we know that sustained progress doesn’t come from sporadic bursts of willpower. It comes from people supporting people, teams reinforcing strategies, and environments that empower us to keep going when things get hard. Resolutions, like missions and mission statements, are rarely about perfection. They’re about persistence, adaptability, and shared commitment.
If your energy is dipping and you’re feeling some fatigue with the resolutions you made a few weeks ago, here are practical ways to stay empowered and go the distance—together.
Start small, stay small
Big goals often fail because they feel overwhelming. Break them down until the next step feels almost too easy. Momentum builds confidence, and confidence fuels consistency. Small wins stack faster than heroic actions. Just do the next small thing!
Reconnect to your “why”
Resolutions aren’t powered by checklists. They’re powered by meaning. Take a moment to remember why you set the goal in the first place. Was it about growth, health, balance, learning, or showing up better for your team or family? Visualize it. When motivation fades, purpose carries you forward.
Consistency before intensity
Doing something regularly matters more than doing it perfectly. Read that again. Protect your routine, even on low-energy days. Consistency creates trust in yourself, and trust is one of the most empowering forces there is. Rely on routine not feelings!
Make it visible
Tracking progress doesn’t need to be complex… but it sure helps if it’s visual. A checklist, calendar, vision board or hey, even a spreadsheet, can make effort tangible. Seeing measurable movement—no matter how small—reinforces that what you’re doing is working.
Adjust without quitting
Changing course is not failure. It’s growth. If a goal no longer fits your reality, refine it. Flexibility keeps momentum alive. Quitting stops it altogether. Don’t think black and white / all-or-nothing with your goals. Sometimes your goal has to evolve once you start making progress toward it.
Lean into accountability
Progress accelerates when it’s shared. A teammate, mentor, or trusted peer can provide encouragement, perspective, and a reminder that you’re not in it alone. Accountability isn’t pressure—it’s support. And sometimes all we need is that text at 6am that says, “meet me outside for our daily walk in 5 minutes!”
Celebrate effort, not just outcomes
The real growth happens long before the finish line. Recognize the days you showed up, tried again, or pushed through discomfort. Those moments are the real work. Have you heard the phrase, “half of success is just showing up?” That’s what we’re talking about.
The hardest part of any resolution isn’t starting—it’s continuing. And continuing is easier when people feel empowered, supported, and connected to something bigger than themselves.
So this January, as the holidays fade away and staying the course with your goals feels a little less exciting than it did at New Years… stay the course. We know you’ll make it.
